A Hot Summer Is Predicted: How Prepared Are You?

The spring of 2016 has already begun with some very hot temperatures, but this is only the beginning. Weather forecasters are predicting a hotter than normal summer season in many areas of the U.S.

According to The Weather Channel aside from the area spanning from Texas to Louisiana, the U.S. is preparing for a massive heatwave for most of the summer. As seen in the map above, most of the country will be sweltering, which means that residents must ensure that they have proper cooling systems in order to be comfortable during the hot summer months. Although the southern states are showing only slightly above average summer temperatures, this can still equate to uncomfortably hot weather.

El Niño is slowly disappearing, according to AccuWeather. This significant change is the reason for the predicted heatwave. As replicated in this map, the dry hot weather will not be seen in all states but much of the country will face either extreme hot dry weather or hot humid weather. AccuWeather predicts hot dry heat to cover the Midwest and the northern Plains, while the East coast will face hot, humid weather.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, NOAA, has summarized their prediction by stating that: “Most of the continental United States is facing elevated chances of well above average summer temperatures.” For those who spend a great deal of time outside, especially in professions that require physical labor, the National Integrated Health Information System (NIHHIS) provides valuable resources on how to avoid the dangers of extreme heat. Through an integrated system, the NIHHIS tries to bridge the information gap in order to prevent heat-related illnesses and death.

The Importance of Being Prepared
